The Obstinate Amphibian

This stubborn frog sat at our doorstep on the night we arrived. I relocated him to the creek.

When spring arrived, he returned to our door. Four months, three storms, and two snowfalls later!

I’ve since learned he’s a toad, since returning him to the creek only annoys him.

No matter how often I relocate him, he always returns to the house.

I once nearly ran over him, hopping resolutely up the driveway, returning from the last place I left him.

Most evenings, I hear him singing from our fields, slightly closer than the night before, telling me not to be afraid of the dark.

I’ll be back!
